Our Song.. "sportsyenta + NewYorkJets"
He told me to continue my "informational blog posting".. i think he was being facetious. lol
SO... i know this isn't information in the classic PFT / SI /ESPN sense... These are just my own quirky nonsensical thoughts... if you dont like it.. go read Peter King, and John Clayton.. they are much more in the "know" then i am ...
OY! ha!
but if you enjoy my ramblings, feel free to read at your leisure, and either way, i welcome comments.
Now back to your regularly scheduled program already in progress...
i was listening to the radio and they were having a 70's weekend ( yes, 1970's) and i heard a song and i felt as though a light bulb went off! It was my and the Jets song.. OUR love song.. TLA! (true love always.. for those of you not versed in 7th grade girl vernacular. )
how i never saw it before... i dont know... enjoy!!!!
i love you NEW YORK JETS!! SWAK!
*i have included the lyrics after the video
Don't give up on us, baby
Don't make the wrong seem right
The future isn't just one night
It's written in the moonlight
Painted on the stars
We can't change ours
Don't give up on us, baby
We're still worth one more try
I know we put a last one by
Just for a rainy evening
When maybe stars are few
Don't give up on us, I know
We can still come through
I really lost my head last night
You've got a right to start believin'
There's still a little love left, even so
Don't give up on us, baby
Lord knows we've come this far
Can't we stay the way we are?
The angel and the dreamer
Who sometimes plays a fool
Don't give up on us, I know
We can still come through
It's written in the moonlight
Painted on the stars
We can't change ours
Don't give up on us, baby
We're still worth one more try
I know we put a last one by
Just for a rainy evening
When maybe stars are few
Don't give up on us, I know
We can still come through
Don't give up on us, baby
Don't give up on us, baby

Jets - bills...
BUT
Mark Sanchez will have wear a brace on both knees a la Joe Namath...
or is it a la Herman Munster... ( didnt he walk as if he didnt have knee joints?)
OY!!
anyway.. lets hope that is sprained PCL is a mild one.. ( and dont ask Rex, he doesnt know. lol)
Ok.. the good news...
Darrelle Revis is superman. ....Faster than a speeding bullet.....More powerful than a locomotive.
Able to leap tall receivers in a single bound......
He has to be in the discussion for NFL DPOY.. really. he has SHUT down TO ( twice) Randy Moss (twice) Steve Smith, Andre Johnson.. (should i continue?)
Thomas Jones reached 1000 yds for the 5th consecutive year. He has quietly upped his game since his partner and my boy, LEON was sidelined by a devastating year ending injury.
Sean Ellis had a great game.. two important sacks yesterday.. he is an intimidating force.
also have to give props to Jay Feely ( though i HATE his politics. heh) He nailed every kick he needed to make...
SO yes .. revenge was had..
but at what cost..
we are at .500 with still a sliiiiiiiiiiiiiiim chance ... to (dare i say it...) make the playoffs....
and we have a hobbled QB..
ok we have a back up... sigh.. and although i am sure that Kellen Clemens is a very nice young man.. but he is not a great QB...he has as much pocket presence as a 4 year old boy on a sugar binge trying to catch fireflies.
Alright .. 10 days to heal.. and get ready to slay those florida pirates .....
ARG-OY!
enough of my rambling .. for today that is. lol :)

Oh Canada!! Football, Jets, and heartache...
So we are again.. my heart is thumping..i anticipate our next meeting … know this time you are serious.. this time will be different, you wont disappoint. You know I have been dreaming about this since I was a little girl! I thought it might happen last year. It was right around this time, I saw the glimmer in your eye, I felt like this was the closest we have been in years to reaching what I had hoped for so long…And alas you let me down.
Will it happen again this year?
You might be thinking I am talking about a relationship.. well I am, but not with the man of my dreams.. but the team of my dreams, The New York Jets.
OY!
It has been this way since I was 6 years old. My dad was watching this game and so excited about this team and a guy they called broadway joe. Initially I wanted to root for the purple team since purple was my favorite color, but my dad would have none of that, so I was forced to watch the green team.. But boy were they exciting.. and it was funny that this broadway joe wore furs and panty hose, but everyone liked him and he had a nice smile.
How the HECK was I suppose to know that his would be the beginning of 40 years of agony and heartache???
I wont lump all the disappointment into one rant because that would be consider cruel and unusual punishment ,and it might give me a heart attack to revisit it all at one time..
Anyway as for this year.. the team has landed to Toronto to meet the Bills tomorrow night, and since we are not mathematically eliminated, and although a win would only get us to .500, hope springs eternal.. that we could STILL make the playoffs.
Sigh…
I am sure by Friday, I will be curled up in a ball in a corner eating chocolate and Wise cheez doodles ( the official cheez doodle of the New York Jets! ha!)
But for today and tomorrow, I will be dressed in my finest green..
And..
I am confident that Sanchez will not throw an interception, but some beautiful balls Jericho, Dustin and Braylon.
Darrelle Revis will make TO wish he was back in his driveway doing push-ups
Kerry Rhodes will continue last week’s performance and show us what a dynamic player he is!
Ok can I get a chant?
J-E-T-S OY OY OY!!
Uhhh.. I mean JETS JETS JETS!!

Musings on the last couple of weeks (jets and yanks), and pitching myself for a Job..
i also don't want to talk about the yanks.. as i am fearful i will jinx them.. (good thing i didn't post this.. before that 6th game... ! )
so instead i thought i would write about something different.. ( i can still write about something different!)
i have decided that ESPN should make me a football intern.. because now they clearly need one. They wouldn't have to worry about me being a vixen as I am a middle aged woman who has been married 20 years. I know my football! (its the one with the baskets and the puck, right? lol)
I only live a half an hour away from the studio.. and i already have season tickets ( for this year.. ARG PSL's) for the Jets. I could provide the over 40 woman's perspective on the NFL..
that hasn't been done...
i am original..unique... quirky... sound intriguing? :-)
ESPN are you listening??
or NFL.com ..
who ever gives me the best offer!
i'm available to start this Sunday at the Jets v. Miami game.
Get me that Press and locker pass!
if you want my digits, leave a comment with your email addy!
or twitter me ( now that just doesn't sound right! ha!) @sportsyenta
toodles for now!
go yanks! go jets!

3-1 !! Time to squish the fish.. maul the mammals... fish fry! j-e-t-s jets jets jets
They went deep in the heart of texas.. and smashed the yellow rose!
ok realllly bad metaphors that probably only i got.. and were they really metaphors?
oh who cares, we WON that game.. Our defense made matt schaub look as if he had put on the pads for the first time.. No TD's, 2 sacks and an interception!
then our home opener against that new england team.. what is their name again? They have won in OUR stadium since 2000..
well it was time to change that! Our defence and OUR rookie QB had something to say about that..
and then came the big easy..sigh which was anything BUT!! The good news is that the D still played well... the bad news is that sanchez looked like a rookie ( yeah i know he is.. but who wants to look like one.. with the exception of looks. lol)
sooo.. now it is down to miami ..lets hope sanchez gets his sea legs back..
and yes.. he has a new receiver..
braylon!! all i hope is that he catches balls and doesn't punch anyone ( though i hope that he really didnt do that)
and he wears #17.. my lucky number...
"hey braylon, don't make me want to change my lucky number! i don't want to have to come down there and kick your ass!"
ok i need to post this .. if i wait any longer .. it will be draft day 2010. ha!

J-E-T-S JETS JETS JETS!!!! It is football time!
The Texans are going to WISH they were at the Alamo!!!
Rex Ryan and his DEFENSE is going to CRUSH Matt Schaub and their offense.
You got to LOVE opening day.. All football dreams are bright! Everyone has their eyes on the Lombardi Trophy, even the detroit lions. LOL!
hope springs eternal!
NO Injuries!
It is FOOTBALL time! ( or 100 minutes till football time!)
WOOT!!!!

where have i been???
i said "no, i just haven't posted in a while"
she said, "yeah, a looong while"
admonished by your teenager...
i was thinking of going the route of "well you don't know how hard it is to do a blog" but i cant because she has her own blog.. and yes, i haven't read it, because she hasnt given me the name of it.
i wonder if her blog consist of pictures of me with devil horns and long rants on how i am intrusive and annoying. and yes i know she will read THIS and be pissed at me. Ah the joys of motherhood!
ANYWAY,
since i last wrote, we spent a week at the beach, and football preseason is over and we are just a few days away from the regular season! Can you hear my heart go pitter patter?
i am going to post some thoughts about my beach vacation later...
and also the two preseason games i attended.
but to my loyal readers ( which might just be my pissed off daughter.. lol)
i am still here!
though i will say.. i didn't get one comment from any of the supposed readers of my blog wondering where i had been for the last three weeks..
sheesh..i could have fallen and couldn't get up.. and wouldn't you feel bad if that were the case???
got to end with some guilt!

computer explosion, Jets, Yankees, Sweep, Les Paul, and other stuff..
So.. my computer exploded.. well not literally but it died... after 5 years ( which is pretty great for a computer...) that is why i haven't posted
you might be thinking, "well couldn't she have updated her blog from another computer?"
you are right, i could!
BUT
i couldn't remember my password.. another of the many joys of getting older...
( and by the way... my birthday comes up on monday, not too late to buy me gifts! )
ok . enough of my bits and bytes and birthday woes..
i am up and running.. again figuratively but not literally.
in the time that i have been gone, the Jets have had training camp, and they aren't really closer to a decision with the whole QB dilemma.. and the WR core still needs firming up, LEON still doesn't have a contract.. sigh..
and for the first preseason game, three OL'ers are out.. and the main defensive tackle.
OY! lets hope a shaman travels with the team back to Cortland after the game and gets to work.
ok beyond the jets, Tiger Woods continues to amaze.. two wins in a row, and as of 5pm, leading the last major of the season..
and oh yes, how about my YANKEES, can someone say it with me...
SWEEEEEEEEEEEEEP!! ( of the red soxs) heh!
and a final goodbye to Les Paul who passed today at the age of 94.. i don't know if he was any kind of sports fan, but boy could he play the guitar!
hopefully now that i am back, i will post more often!
aren't you all so thrilled!
comment away, you know you want to!

birthday!!
she is a lovely, smart, thoughtful, beautiful young woman.
though here is another way we are different, to me, a birthday is an opportunity to wear a crown all day, to have the wait staff at a restaurant sing to you.. and then maybe go to a second restaurant for a second dessert and be serenaded there also.
a birthday is a time to be a spoiled.. in fact i am constantly trying to figure out a way to extend my birthday to a birthweek!
my daughter just wanted a nice subdued day.. that's what she got.. but it took all my strength to not make a bigger deal out of it.
anyway...
all those who get to know her in her life will be richer for it.
just in case you think she is perfect, she isn't.. she has flaws...
the biggest of which is she hates sports!
ugh!
just my luck that i would have one child and she would despise sports of any kind ( unless you consider fashion and shopping as a sport.)
happy happy my sweet girl!!!

Favre retires.. or does he.. ! ha!
so surprised!
LOL!!
Quickest re-retirement in NFL history, less then 12 hours! Ha!
sorry not much more to say...
other then .. do you think that Brett will go into the Hall of Fame as a JET?
heh!
dont freak out cheeseheads.. i was just kidding!

Perfect game!! What is your idea of a perfect game!
27 up and 27 down...
an honorable mention to DeWayne Wise who made the perfect catch ( kind of) to keep Buehrle's perfect game in tact in the 9th inning.
My perfect game might be sitting on the 40 yd. line in the first row behind the Jets bench as they win the superbowl.. or even more unbelievable, would be the gal ( i don't think there are any) who is holding one side of the first down marker during said Superbowl. Hey if i am going to dream, i might as well go all the way..
and yeah.. after the superbowl win, Joe Namath kisses me.. heh! He could even call me Suzy if he wanted to.
What is your idea of the Perfect Game?

MACCA!!! Sir Paul !!! WOW!
i have never seen him before...
all i can say is wow!
i arrived at the parking lot early. and was sitting in my car, and heard something that i thought was someone just blasting out Macca out of their car stereo, but when i got out of my car, i realized that he was doing a sound check in the stadium.
he did a couple of songs including one that he didn't play during the actual concert, Midnight Special!!! just wow! it sounded great!
his opening band was an Irish band called "the script" .. they had a very nice sound..
after they were done and 40 minutes later, Macca came on. i don't know what to say. Paul was brilliant . his voice is fabulous.
i have seen a lot of these aging stars, and their voices don't hold up, his does. i also love watching him play. they showed his finger work on the big screens. he still is one of the best bass players i have seen.
his band is awesome. the drummer is great, as are the guitarists. Paul really puts on a show. i didn't sit down for the entire concert. 2 hours and 45 minutes .. non stop hits..
when he said "See you next time" i thought i will be there! i could see him over and over. it was sooo worth the $$ and total exhaustion!!!

Yikes! .... a week later... Watson, McCartney, Monty Python...
of course, it doesnt account for the other 5.
well i just have been lazy. Can you believe it?? a sports nut being lazy!
WELL, i never said i was an athlete.. i am a lazy sports nut..
Ok back to sports...
I like Stewart Cink..
BUT i was really rooting for Tom Watson. How cool was that.
Unfortunately an eight foot putt will probably haunt Tom for awhile.
Tomorrow i am going to see Paul McCartney at Citi Field!! The best thing to happen at Citi Field since it opened. heh! ( sorry METs fans!)
Anyway, it is suppose to be monsoon like weather, so that will be neat!
I need to get out my rain gear. Yeah that's right, i will be HOT! lol
BUT i get to see MACCA live!
I promise to report on the concert later this week.
and maybe the Yankees will be in first place by the end of the week!
and oh yes.. i still have long hair.
but no shrubbery...
and i must cut down the mightiest tree in the forest with a ... herring!
Ni Ni Ni!!!!
my apologies to Monty Python...

HR derby... hair part deux..and spelling
i know that the game itself is important as it decides who has home field in the world series...
but
the HR derby is fun!
i always root for the long shot..
it is fun watching the other players just having fun..
i know that professional sports has become a business..
but i wish it was more fun..
so tonight i will watch and enjoy!
go brandon inge :-) as of this writing, he is the longest of the long shots!
and for those of you waiting for an update on my hair dilemma..
none of the wig places will take my hair...
but i thought i might just cut it anyway..
so i looked at a bunch of women of a certain age ( mine!) at a concert .. and those with short hair all looked frumpy .. now let me just say here.. that i have a ton of friends that have shorter hair and do NOT look frumpy!
anyway.. for the time being, i will keep my hippie hair, as my friend John calls it.
Of course, that might change tomorrow...
you will just need to come back and keep updated!!
ps.. i always spellcheck my posts, because i am a notoriously bad speller... and i am pleased to announce that i only spelled three words wrong! Woot!
pps.. no, i know, my grammar is atrocious.

John "J.J." Jones.. 1970's Jets QB.. and other NFL Veterans..
He died in a fire yesterday. He was renting a basement apartment of a house. The fire was most likely an arson.
I tried to look for something about his death on ESPN, but found nothing. That surprised me considering his place in NFL history. I just think this is part of a bigger issue.
We need to honor and take care of our NFL Veterans. Once they are out of the league, they are forgotten, and left to suffer the leftover physical pain of their NFL years. They have little health insurance, and end up, at times, living without the help they need to deal with the ongoing effects of the injuries they suffered.
We need to make sure the young players coming into the league know the history of the game.. they need to know about the players who blazed the trail.. whether it was for racial equality, or for financial security.. or if it was just a player who was a journeyman player, but was an integral part of the team.. Because football is a team effort. There is no one player or coach who could win a game by himself.
My thoughts go out to JJ's friends and family.
I belong to a Jets online community and below is a note that JJ Jones posted on the forum (Jetnation.com) in March, 2008. Some very interesting stuff.
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: The Answer to "Where Is J. J. Jones Now?"
Thank you JetNation.com for the interest that has been taken to find out what happened to John "J.J." Jones. I am alive and well and still involved in minority business and community development activities around the world, as you can see from the news and information attachments below found at my hometown of Memphis, Tennessee’s The Mid South Tribune Newspaper’s web site www.blackinformationhighway.com.
As far as my football career is concerned, I forfeited it when I shared with the New York media and the whole world the private words told me by new Head Coach Lou Holtz that He had never had a Black Quarterback play for him that and he never would. I left New York City headed for the Calgary Stampeders Canadian Football League Team to replace their Quarterback Joe Pisarchek just one week before General Manager Andy Robistelli of the New York Giants called for me to come play Quarterback for him with the Giants. So, you know the infamous history of that story of Joe "P" and the Philadelphia Eagles’ last play of the game fumble return for a touchdown that took Joe "P" to Philly.
In any case, my sports career reward can be summed up in a statement made by National Football League Hall of Fame Quarterback Warren Moon when he gave credit to former Los Angeles Rams Quarterback "James Harris" and a "couple of others" for his being able to play Quarterback in the NFL. I met Warren Moon when he visited Mount Zion my church home in Seattle and I told him I was one of those "couple of others!" The other Black Quarterback pioneer in the National Football League was the Late "Jefferson Street" Joe Gilliam from Tennessee State University, which by the way was one of only three National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) football teams in 1973 that was undefeated and untied. I was Quarterback for the 1973 undefeated untied Fisk University Bulldogs located on that same "Jefferson Street" in Nashville, Tennessee.
I gave up my professional football career in the National Football League so that other African American Quarterback/Athletes that followed me from the likes of Doug Williams, Randle Cunningham, Rodney Peete to Vince Young and even Mike Vick could a real chance to play QB in the NFL like, the only man to win championships in the old American Football League and the National Football League, Weeb Ewbanks gave me with the New York Jets. Weeb was like a father, who in-fact died just two days after my Father Negro National Baseball League Memphis Red Sox Catcher Clinton "Casey" Jones.

hair..
i was going to cut it years ago for locks of love, but alas they wont take highlighted hair...
since then i haven't cut it more then trims every couple of months.
I haven't highlighted it for 6 months but the highlights still exist ...
so ...
i am looking for a place to donate my hair, and the only place i found was a place that would take my hair and turn it into a big dreadlock mat to use for oil spills.. which is a very good cause but not exactly what i was looking for...
then of course i would need to find a haircut that doesn't make me look frumpy...
but as my daughter said..
you don't want to look 15 either..
help!

Serena, Roger, Tiger, Lana Turner, and of course Love SHACK...
i should make up a story on how i was too busy being discovered at the soda shop, a la Lana Turner, but alas there is not a soda shop close by and frankly i don't think they are looking for a 40+ mom with no experience other then some college theater courses and a pipe dream...
by the way, what is a "pipe dream" and do people really dream about pipes and how is that exciting? maybe if they are made from copper, but otherwise i just don't see it..
ok off to this past weekend's non team sports...
congrats to roger and serena for their Wimbledon wins! and tiger winning his own tournament! (hmmm.. ) i love tiger, but not much of a surprise. How can he not win his own tourney? It would be like having someone else blow out the candles when it is your birthday!
on a more somber note...so sad about steve mcnair.. only the second black QB to have started in the superbowl. I am very sad for his four boys. I hope they somehow find peace as they grow older, and remember the good memories, as opposed to the tragic way he died.
now for something completely different ( to borrow a phrase) ..
why do i always want to dance when i hear love shack?

MO, 500 saves and an RBI!
BUT
special cheers to Mariano Rivera, the GREATEST reliever ever! and should be in the discussion for the top pitchers ever.
AND how cool is it that he got his 500th save on the same night he got his 1st RBI...
amazing!
When asked about the record of 571 saves, Mo said, it isn't about the records, it is about winning the next game. He is a class act and a team player!
Thank you Mariano! I am so glad you are a Yankee!
Happy July everyone!

Farrah, king of pop, things in 3's, Walter, the knicks, subway series, and rain
Farrah.. what a painful last year she had. I am so sorry she had so much pain. She was always that beauty that couldn't be attained by high school boys wanting her, and high school girls wanting to be like her..
and yes.. i had the farrah hairdo ... and yes.. it never compared to hers...
Michael.. the king of pop...what i can say.. he was a great talent. his ability to move in ways people couldn't imagine.. ( the moonwalk.. which i tried to oh so master) and he is such a talent musically.. his music was an ever present part of my teenage years, though i never owned one of his albums..
i did have a 45 of the Jackson 5's ABC... and I loved the saturday morning cartoon..
as for the other aspects of his life.. he sure was quirky.. and he was acquitted of all charges against him... and that is all i really know.
so those two and Ed McMahon... it always seems as if death comes in threes ( with famous people that is)
Whew! Though i hear that Walter Cronkite is teetering..
NBA draft was ALSO yesterday.. i watched the Knicks pick.. sigh.. it is going to be another longggggg season. THey need a point guard, so they took a forward! Makes sense, huh? OY! Only the knicks!
Yanks v. Mets this week... of course that would mean it would have to STOP raining .. and i am NOT optimistic...
All this rain does wonders for the frizziness of my hair!
neat!

Sapp, Bats, Father's day, etc..
ah well.. it has been busy
well not really but i need an excuse..
happy belated fathers day to all the dad's out there who actually care about their children. TO those of you who have just spread around your sperm, this day is NOT for you. Just sayin.
So i was reading an article where Warren Sapp said that the young players of the NFL don't care about the history of the game and the players, and don't listen to the veterans.
Now don't get me wrong, i am not a Sapp fan and he had his issues over the years before he retired..
but ...
it is a shame that the young players don't have the interest or respect for the game that is their livelihood.
now i sound like an old person.. kids these days.. lol
here is the link to the article http://www.profootballtalk.com/2009/06/22/sapp-says-young-players-dont-listen-to-veterans/
And now for a non-sequitar....
we had a bat in our fireplace on monday. OY! i am thankful that my husband was back from california and could deal with it..
yeah i am not a sissy girl.. i will deal with bugs or spiders any day..
but mice, bats or anything of that ilk freak me out!
:-)

donte, michael, and melons.
michael vick gets 2 years for running a dog fights.
both are reprehensible, and i think michael vick deserved to do the time...
BUT
does donte deserve to only do 30 days? really? he came to a financial settlement with the family ... how much money i wonder? what if he does it again? more money?
will he play this year, or will he get suspended?
bet mangini is lovin this! of course they love him in cleveland already. HA!
now for a non sequitur..
picking melons is a crap shoot. how many times have you thought a melon was ripe and then cut it open only to feel deceived? sigh...
too many times to count for me..

wedding, gluttony, dancing, and the yankees..
it was totally glorious.. the best weather new england had seen in weeks...
both the bride and groom glowed and were so very happy..
finding true love in your forties.. how amazingly wonderful is that!!!
i had an amazing time with friends i have known for over 25 years. i laughed till i cried, even after all these years, we all find joy together, and laugh like i don't with anyone else!
and from thursday till this afternoon, i consumed a million calories..
yes that is a one and six zeroes!
ha!
ok so i didn't actually count, and that number might be a bit of an underestimate, but lets just say that gluttony ensued! and the food deserved to be eaten in all its glory!
scrumptious tastes, textures smells and flavours.. enough to drive a food-a-holic like myself a bit over the edge... lol
but alas monday is almost here and i will be back on the train.. choo fricken chooo..
so i am editing photos ( and yes scratch photographer from career possibilities) and i see that i danced so much.. that not only is my face shiny, but my dress looks like it is coming apart.. not a neat look on me.. ( scratch super model from career possibilities)... is there enough "retouching" that will make this ok? ha!
maybe it is time to start super imposing stuff...
though most importantly .. the bride is so photogenic and looks beautiful...
i was sitting at the brunch table with a group of very important ( and also lovely people) .. so all of a sudden .. former middle school math teacher didn't sound so impressive...
note to self.. next time tell people you are currently fielding offers to publish your blog as the one and only sportsyenta.. could the movie rights be far behind?
who should i get to play me?? any thoughts? ( nobody better say phyllis diller! heh!)
and oh yeah.. because i need to put some sports in this...
how about those yankees?
they might have just flopped against the sawx's ( OY!)
15-0 against their cross town rivals.. woo hoo! knocked johan santana out in a flash!
ok then.. time to make sure the treadmill works.. for tomorrow the trek begins!
:-)

mom thoughts, and some sports
so here are a couple of gems from the past day..
my delightful daughter told me that she hates that i don't capitalize ...
and i don't have paragraphs...
alas i am the e.e. cummings of the blog ( well not really, but i don't use the shift key)
the other day, i had the radio on and was listening to led zeppelin and she said, "that isn't music, it is noise. all he does is scream" LOL. shouldn't that conversation be reversed?
then today we were at the movies, and i was crying at one poignant scene, ( ok i was crying at a lot of the scenes)
and she told me to "man up"
ha!
whoever said that having a teenager wasn't fun and exciting filled with touching moments never raised a teenager.
enough of my maternal sagas...
Magic better win tonight, or Ewing can kiss the chance of a ring goodbye again..
and Wallace Wright had a great day at mini-camp! I am hoping he is our #2 WR...

federer, tiger, nba finals...
Ok. so NEVER count tiger out. He could be 10 shots out sunday morning, and there still is a chance. He is just unreal. I have to admit that i only watch golf when tiger is playing.
Nba finals. Well, everyone thought this was going to be a 7 game series, or at least 6. If Orlando doesn't go home, and find their "magic" that got them a win over the celtics in a great series, this should all be over in 5. And then again, no ring for Ewing.
Jets week continues, but as always, there is nothing planned for CT. They really shouldn't ignore the third of the "tri-state" area,
OR
they should start calling it the "bi-state" area.. but that has a lot of other connotations!

killer rabbits, SATs, rex ryan and of course, LEON!
i was driving home today from the mall (dont ask.. i hate shopping! )
anyway..
on the side of the off ramp in the grass was a bunny attacking a crow.. lol.. luckily there was traffic, so i could look twice.. and make sure that i wasn't hallucinating. but there was this plucky bunny not letting the crow get her, and although i wasn't there for the end of the battle, i would put money on the classic underdog ( or should i say underbunny!)
I haven't really talked about my "mom"-ness yet, and i will get to it, BUT after misplaced answer sheets were found and graded. my daughter finally got her scores, and no surprise, but she did well.
lets put it this way, if i was applying to college nowadays, i would have been lucky to get into the local community college.. NOT that there is anything wrong with that.. just that things are so very competitive now..
and amazingly as much as i LOVE sports, i am not very personally competitive, or at least i don't think so.. my friends might chime in differently.
Ahhhh Rex Ryan.. the new coach of my beloved New York Jets! This week he said
"I never came here to kiss Bill Belichick's, you know, rings," Ryan said. "I came to win. Let's just put it that way. So we'll see what happens. I'm certainly not intimidated by New England or anybody else. . . ."
you got to LOVE that!
and on the LEON front.. he still hasn't been paid... BUT he was at OTA's.. a show of good faith. AND his fiancee gave birth to a healthy baby boy, Noel (LEON spelled backwards)
and oh yes...for my dear friend margaret, YANKEES are in first place ..and just to add salt into the wound.... Duke sucks. :)
ok that is all for the moment!
June is busting out all over!

LeBron, Kobe, puppets.. 25th reunion and of course LEON
but TJ has and is back at OTA's!
LeBron is on the brink..
and Kobe is not to far behind
David Stern has invested in a prescription for xanax...
I guess the nike's puppets are to the NBA as being on the cover of Madden is for the NFL...
jinx!
if you are an NBA player out there, dont let them make a puppet out of you!
lol
i was at my 25th college reunion, and that is why i had not blogged for the past week.
hundreds of women walking in white.
i was proud that our 150 classmates walked in togas!
TO-GA, TO-GA!!!!

Rachel ALexandra!!
First filly to win the preakness in 85 years!!
What other news...
A-ROD hit an HR in the bottom of the 11th. (yeah i shouldnt have traded him away in my fantasy baseball league)
Michael Phelps is back in the pool.. and is not using a water bong..
Patrick Ewing has guaranteed a Magic win in game 7. ( Love you Patrick, but as a knick fan.. i have heard that one before from you.. so excuse me if i am skeptical.)
Leon is still not signed, and Marc Sanchez graduated and is wearing his green ( at least that is what he is saying in his tweets.)
As for me, I hula hooped nonstop for 12 minutes yesterday!
that is exercise, isnt it?

LEON Washington
Leon is not at OTA's. Contract dispute.
I just dont get it.
Pay the man.
He is a good guy, character is important.
I met him at the Taste, he is down to earth and humble.
He led the league in All Purpose Yards last year. What more is he suppose to do? and THAT was as the #2 RB
Pay the man!
He is one of the most exciting players i have ever seen.
When he gets the ball, there is always the possibility he might score.
With the possibility of a rookie QB, you need a solid RB core, Leon can make Sanchez look good.
did i mention..
Pay the man.

favre.. arod..
i guess the drama and saga will continue..
now there is a surprise!!
soon he will be Brett the Packer Jet Viking.. do we hyphen his nickname? to we just combine it? Packerjetviking? because he spent the most time in green bay, do we make that the "official" last name and since they are rivals do we separate the vikes from them.. Viking Jet Packer?
what say you? any thoughts?
and oh yeah, how about Arod? First pitch after coming back.. 3 run homer! Yankees win!
Dont forget mother's day tomorrow!!

baseball and my beloved bombers...
she commented on the fact that it was only JETs related..
and she was hoping to rib me on the Yankees... ( yeah i am a fan. OY!)
so here you go margaret...
they yankees are god awful right now... i do hope the new stadium isnt a curse.. or maybe it is that the players are not use to playing to a stadium that is 50% empty.
hey on the bright side.. Mariano got 3K's last night!

after the Taste of the Jets..
it was my first time at any type of event like that.. it was lovely. the food was grand, especially the shrimp tempura from Tao. Also some amazing ribs etc. .. yummy! Though from a female perspective.. i kept wondering where the heck was the chocolate! Heck, there were not any desserts? Cmon.. could putting out a plate of cookies been so hard?
Everyone lovessss cookies!!!
The space was very nice, easy to walk around, you never felt that you were packed in like sardines. i thought it was interesting that they had the "popular" players in the same side of the ballroom, and it was a lot more crowded. i felt bad for some of the boys who were on the other side and more specifically in the corner. ( but more on that later) I actually think i know why they did that... the "in demand" players were all near the table where they were trying to get people to bid on various sports memorabilia. ..
ok enough of the aesthetics..
lets talk about the boys...
what a lovely group of young men, their mama's would be proud! given that i am old enough to be most of their mom's, i know i would be proud.
they were respectful and warm.
some players of note...
leon washington ... i have to admit that he is a fave of mine. i think he has mad skillz (heh!) and is thrilling to watch, so i admit i might have been gushing a bit, and yet leon was quite humble. he took the time to chat with me even though there as a line .. he just seemed like a good guy..
wallace wright... unfortunately wallace was in the back corner, and when i went up to him, there was no one around. he actually engaged me in conversation, asking me how i was enjoying the night. we talked about our preferences for the ribs and pulled pork selections (this was before i found the shrimp) .. he ma'am'ed me a bit.. but that is ok.. i am old, and he was just being respectful! i tried to think how i could show him a picture of my daughter .. he is the kind of boy you want your daughter to bring home.
note to Coach (rex, schotty..etc) - THROW Wallace the ball this year! Cmon! I have a good feeling about him! ( and yes.. i realize i have no actually football or coaching experience! ..I do make a mean brisket, though.!)
and oh yes, I also met rex ryan. i know i am starting to sound like a broken record, but what a warm guy! He is also a big guy.. not that there is anything wrong with that! heh!
another player of note.. james ihedigbo ... he is actually from Amherst, MA. My dad taught him in math class, i mentioned that to him and he remembered my dad ... so that was a very cool personal part of the evening for me.
of course then i was walking about and wondered why john starks was there.. i am still not sure, but i figure if he was there mooching food, he could at least take a picture with me.. of course afterwards.. i did tell him to have a great season.. ( and yes i know he hasnt played for years) ! i could have asked him about game 7 against the rockets... 2-18 from the field? OY! .. but he was a lot bigger then me.. and i didnt want him to hurt me.
and then for the rap fans.. salt-n-peppa were there. got a picture with them.. honestly if someone hadnt told me who they were, i wouldnt have known.. ah well.. my musical tastes are of a different genre..now if pete townshend or david crosby had been there.. i would have recognized.
all in all.. it was a great time! i am sure some of those players are wondering today, who was that witty, beautiful older woman jets fan i met last night..
LOL!
i hope i can go back next year.. it was a treat!!!

taste of the JETS
tonight i am going to the "taste of the jets" i am excited! I have never met jets players, so it should be nice..
here is what i am hoping..
- i can get into the city without too much trouble ( i never drive to the city)
- i am wearing heals.. so i am hoping i dont take a header into a table of food, a player ( i dont want them to think i am tackling them) or before i even get there and skin my knee.. because nothing says sophisticated like blood running down your knee with running pantyhose.
wish me luck!
i will blog tomorrow on my experience!

mini camp.. sanchez has zip!
but i will try.
she also said that i need to capitalize..but i have decided that i will write in the genre of e.e. cummings but with out the grace and verbal acuity.
anyway..
today is the first day of Jets rookie mini camp, and from what the "beaties" say,
sanchez has zip! maybe his nickname should be "zippy" not the pinhead. ( i think that is taken)
also, shonn greene can run a bit, and how perfect is his last name!
ok.. more later and hopefully before cinco de mayo!

aftermath of the draft and advice from my kid...
Anyway, the JETs got good grades from the draft gurus... Quality not Quantity. We shall see! I am cautiously optimistic.
Everyone wondered how they got Reggie Hodges to give up his #6. What compensation would Sanchez give him?
How bout they cut him?
I guess he saw the writing on the wall, or should I say the writing on the jersey!
OY!

2nd day and a 3rd pick!
i have my java and am ready to go!
i think we need a WR and a Safety.. maybe a tight end?
which way will they go?
it would be easier to watch if it wasnt beautiful outside!
ahhh what i do for sports.
will there be a diamond in the rough out there somewhere?
only time will tell...

sanchez sanchez sanchez
"broadway mark" just doesnt sound right .. so here are some of the nicknames i have thought of..
"manhattan mark"
"staten island sanchez"
"madison ave mark"
ok so i will keep thinking! heh!
first post - draft day and other stuff..
Ok so i might add more later if i am not crying huddled up in a corner. :-)
Hopefully this blog will be the start of something fun and interesting to read... who knows..
I hope that in the next coming weeks, i will write a bit more about me, and my love hate relationship with sports..
4 hours and 2 minutes to go..... J-E-T-S JETS JETS JETS!!
