Well.. last night i went to the Taste of the NFL - Jets at Cipriani's.
it was my first time at any type of event like that.. it was lovely. the food was grand, especially the shrimp tempura from Tao. Also some amazing ribs etc. .. yummy! Though from a female perspective.. i kept wondering where the heck was the chocolate! Heck, there were not any desserts? Cmon.. could putting out a plate of cookies been so hard?
Everyone lovessss cookies!!!
The space was very nice, easy to walk around, you never felt that you were packed in like sardines. i thought it was interesting that they had the "popular" players in the same side of the ballroom, and it was a lot more crowded. i felt bad for some of the boys who were on the other side and more specifically in the corner. ( but more on that later) I actually think i know why they did that... the "in demand" players were all near the table where they were trying to get people to bid on various sports memorabilia. ..
ok enough of the aesthetics..
lets talk about the boys...
what a lovely group of young men, their mama's would be proud! given that i am old enough to be most of their mom's, i know i would be proud.
they were respectful and warm.
some players of note...
leon washington ... i have to admit that he is a fave of mine. i think he has mad skillz (heh!) and is thrilling to watch, so i admit i might have been gushing a bit, and yet leon was quite humble. he took the time to chat with me even though there as a line .. he just seemed like a good guy..
wallace wright... unfortunately wallace was in the back corner, and when i went up to him, there was no one around. he actually engaged me in conversation, asking me how i was enjoying the night. we talked about our preferences for the ribs and pulled pork selections (this was before i found the shrimp) .. he ma'am'ed me a bit.. but that is ok.. i am old, and he was just being respectful! i tried to think how i could show him a picture of my daughter .. he is the kind of boy you want your daughter to bring home.
note to Coach (rex, schotty..etc) - THROW Wallace the ball this year! Cmon! I have a good feeling about him! ( and yes.. i realize i have no actually football or coaching experience! ..I do make a mean brisket, though.!)
and oh yes, I also met rex ryan. i know i am starting to sound like a broken record, but what a warm guy! He is also a big guy.. not that there is anything wrong with that! heh!
another player of note.. james ihedigbo ... he is actually from Amherst, MA. My dad taught him in math class, i mentioned that to him and he remembered my dad ... so that was a very cool personal part of the evening for me.
of course then i was walking about and wondered why john starks was there.. i am still not sure, but i figure if he was there mooching food, he could at least take a picture with me.. of course afterwards.. i did tell him to have a great season.. ( and yes i know he hasnt played for years) ! i could have asked him about game 7 against the rockets... 2-18 from the field? OY! .. but he was a lot bigger then me.. and i didnt want him to hurt me.
and then for the rap fans.. salt-n-peppa were there. got a picture with them.. honestly if someone hadnt told me who they were, i wouldnt have known.. ah well.. my musical tastes are of a different genre..now if pete townshend or david crosby had been there.. i would have recognized.
all in all.. it was a great time! i am sure some of those players are wondering today, who was that witty, beautiful older woman jets fan i met last night..
LOL!
i hope i can go back next year.. it was a treat!!!
I bet they're all hanging out today and talking about the Cougar from Connecticut.
